My intention was to post about our Sturgis trip in chronological order once we returned home. But I seem to have gotten a little ahead of myself and posted about Mount Rushmore and the Needles Highway, totally skipping over our activities the day before.
So let's rewind because Monday, August 8th is not to be missed!
During the day we took another pass as the Sturgis Rally. Of course we had our requisite late afternoon downpour where we got pretty wet walking through town. Shocker! And in the evening we planned to see a concert. So after drying out we decided to make a stop at Full Throttle Saloon before heading over to see Moonshine Bandits at Glencoe Camp Resort.
When we arrived at Full Throttle the sun had just set and I took some of my favorite pictures of the trip. The ground was still wet from the earlier rain shower and reflected the beautiful colors of the sunset.
Love, love, love these pictures!
Have you heard of the Full Throttle Saloon?
I had a vague awareness that there was a reality TV show around this famous biker bar, but had never seen the show (which is surprising I know, since I'm a reality TV junkie). I also knew that in September 2015, just a couple of weeks after the 75th annual rally, the bar burned to the ground in the middle night due to an electrical fire.
The original Full Throttle Saloon touted being the world's largest biker bar and it was unclear whether they would rebuild their empire after the fire last year. But who are we kidding, how could they not? Well, just a few short days before the official start of the 2016 Sturgis Rally, a new Full Throttle opened it's doors in a new location about 5 miles down the road from the original.
Though I personally never experienced the original bar, the new Full Throttle was quite the scene (be prepared for some skin exposure photos ahead).
This is no small bar. It's a massive indoor and outdoor space. It's a dance club, a concert stage and a toned down strip club of sorts (not really) with several bars throughout. The bar staff caters to both the guys and the ladies...with a couple of the bars serviced by scantily clad women who serve the drinks as well as dance on the bar-tops.
And there's a little something for the women too at the bar serviced by very buff shirtless men. Sorry ladies, I didn't get a photo said shirtless men.
But rest assured there was a lot of eye candy to be had for all!
So when in Rome...
And a there' a woman in pasties dancing right next to you....
You surreptitiously try to take her photo...
Then realize that's silly and you just ask her to take her photo.
Because someone dancing around in pasties is not modest and loves to have her photo taken. Duh.
And then you take your photo with the pasties girl because you can.
Also when in Rome...
And a busty blonde server in super short bootie shorts and fishnets walks around giving mobile Fireball shots...
Gloria and Cari say, "Why not?"
And when in Rome...
You dance on top of the bar...
Okay, I didn't do that. But I might have, if we stayed longer and did more Fireball shots...okay, probably not, but maybe!?
Has my conservative image been tarnished now? I kinda hope so, a little ;)
We didn't stay at Full Throttle for too long because we had a concert to get to, but it was a really fun time! This was the Sturgis I was hoping to see and I wasn't disappointed!
The only minor disappointment of the night was when we got to Glencoe to see Moonshine Bandits, they had already been playing for almost an hour. Oops! Cari had looked at the Glencoe website earlier in the day and the site listed the wrong start time for the show. The people selling us the tickets had no clue their website had the wrong time, nor did they seem to care. So that was a bummer, but we still saw a good portion of the show and it was awesome! A great end to our day.
Look, there's me and Cari up on stage dancing with the band! Don't you see us??? |
Tomorrow will cover our last day in South Dakota where we survived The Badlands...
